Two mermaids spend a quiet evening on the dock, shucking oysters beneath the fading light. Viewed from above, the scene transforms an ordinary Lowcountry ritual into something playful and magical—where friendship, seafood, and mermaid tails coexist as naturally as marsh grass and saltwater.
Part of my ongoing series exploring women, Southern identity, and moments of everyday joy, Pearl Flukes imagines mermaids not as mythical creatures from distant seas, but as locals gathering on the dock after a long day, sharing stories over freshly opened oysters.
