Two mermaids sit quietly on the dock, watching a shrimp boat drift across the marsh. There is simple comfort of being together and sharing a moment of stillness.

Part of my ongoing Lowcountry mermaid series, Dockside Therapy III explores friendship as a form of healing. The title comes from the idea that some of life's best conversations happen by the water, where worries feel smaller and time seems to slow down. The mermaids become stand-ins for all of us: pausing, reflecting, and finding peace in good company.
