A mermaid lounges in an ice-filled cooler at the edge of the marsh, one arm dangling lazily over the side and a drink still in hand. Equal parts Southern summer, deadpan humor, and fantasy, I'm Cool imagines the universal desire to escape the heat—even if you're a mythical creature.

Part of my ongoing Lowcountry mermaid series, this painting places extraordinary beings in familiar, everyday situations. The result is both playful and strangely relatable: a portrait of exhaustion, summertime, and finding relief wherever you can.
